What is network science?
Network science is an academic field which studies complex networks such as telecommunication networks, computer networks, biological networks, cognitive and semantic networks, and social networks, considering distinct elements or actors represented by nodes and the connections between the elements or actors as links. Why do we study network science?
In a sense, networks provide a mathematical language that allows scientist from many different fields to understand each other. This makes networks important tools that allow us to work on the most difficult problems imaginable [1]. The field for using networks to solve complex problems is called network science [2].
